Hythe Heritage and Historical Society Request — The Committee received a letter and presentation from the Hythe Heritage and Historical Society Board requesting that the County assume the assets owned by the Society. The Committee recommended to Council to take no action on the request from the Society and directed Administration to assist with the process of dissolution or finding other organizations that may be willing to assume the Society's assets.
Fourth Quarter Economic Development Report — The Committee received an information report from Administration outlining the County’s economic development activities from the fourth quarter of 2024 and the upcoming initiatives planned for 2025.
Taxation Methods Report — The Committee received an information report from Administration reviewing various taxation methods, as requested by Council during interim budget meetings in December. The report, which examines various tax options, will assist Council’s direction in setting a tax rate for the 2025 tax season and to determine the estimated tax revenue for the 2025 final budget. The Committee directed Administration to bring back options for implementing a minimum municipal tax levy for 2025 and create subclass types that include residential, vacant non-residential property and small businesses to a future Council meeting for consideration.
Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO) Assessment — The Committee received a report from Administration regarding recommendations for the currently unfunded Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) Reserve. The Reserve follows the new accounting standard and was created based on Council’s direction during the 2024 final budget deliberations. The Committee directed Administration to bring back funding options along with the finalized Asset Retirement Obligations Assessment to a future Council meeting for consideration.
Valhalla Snow Clearing Request — The Committee reviewed a letter from the Valhalla Heritage Society requesting snow removal at community facilities in the Hamlet of Valhalla. The Committee took no action, Administration will continue to prioritize County infrastructure and the previous year’s methods for the remainder of the 2025 winter season and will create a plan to provide consistent and efficient service across the County.
The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on January 27, 2025. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on March 3, 2025.
